From the tip, this game was a back-and-forth affair. With neither team leading by more than 4 points in the first half tonight’s game was a battle! With the largest lead of the game being an 11-point lead for the Eagles, PCC was able to pull out the 75-69 victory.
After a pair of threes were traded inside the first minute of the game, this dynamic set the tone for the night. A continuous battle between the South Region opponents with neither team leading by more than 4 points in the first half. Liam Gerdts led the Eagles’ offense through the first half with 17 points and 6 rebounds in the first 20 minutes of the game. As the teams entered halftime the Eagles were up 38-34 with 20 minutes remaining in the game.
As the second half drew on, the Eagles had a 62-51 lead with just under 10 minutes remaining in the game. With the fear of their first South Region loss looming, Trinity College went on the attack. Putting together a 10-0 run in four minutes, the Tigers clawed their way back into the game. With the score tied 63-63 with 5:23 left of the clock, sophomore Blaise Conlon stepped up and knocked down one of the biggest three-pointers of the night! Pushing the Eagles back into the lead the Eagles finally pulled out the victory by a final score of 75-69.
Tonight’s victory was well spread among the Eagles… while dealing with some foul trouble Liam Gerdts recorded his first double-double of the season with 22 points and 11 rebounds. With the best performance of his PCC Eagles career, West Coast transfer Lucas Hernandez had 17 points on 4/10 shooting from three-point land. And rounding out the Eagles’ top performers was Blaise Conlon who scored a career-high 20 points going, 4/4 from behind the arc and 4/4 from the free throw line, and grabbing a career-high 7 rebounds.
