After a riveting overtime draw last weekend against NCAA Division III opponent LaGrange College, the Eagles welcomed Division II opponent University of West Florida to campus for the first time in program history. The Argos handed the Eagles their first regular season loss to a score of 11-0.
The reigning Gulf South Conference Regular Season Champions held a 2-0-2 record prior to kick-off. The Argos entered their fifth road game of the season, in search of their first victory since their 3-2 victory against Saint Leo University.
In the match’s 5th minute, junior captain Dakotah Barchus exited early in the contest due to an injury to his left ankle. Freshman Eric Romero, Barchus’s replacement, quickly inserted himself at the center-midfield position and even attempted the Eagles’ first shot on goal.
The Argos’ offense dominated the first half of the match, managing to punch in four of their eleven goals in the opening minutes of the game. Center-back Austin Marshick broke open the scoring, capitalizing off a free cross delivered by Finn Warner. Senior Jack Patching also led all scorers in the first half with two goals.
Despite the Argos firing 16 shots on goal, junior Bryce Hammond fell one save short of his season-high of 5 saves in one match.
